Access to high-quality purified water is essential for modern commercial, industrial, and institutional operations. To meet this requirement, we recently completed the successful installation and commissioning of a 1000 Litres Per Hour (LPH) Stainless Steel Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment Plant at Hedenburg, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Designed to treat raw water with a TDS range of 1500–2000 ppm, the system delivers consistently purified water with a final TDS of less than 10 ppm, making it suitable for applications requiring high-quality process water. The project demonstrates our expertise in delivering customized water treatment solutions that combine performance, reliability, and long-term operational efficiency.
Project Overview
The objective of this project was to provide a robust and efficient water purification system capable of handling high-TDS raw water while ensuring superior water quality at the outlet. After evaluating the source water characteristics and client requirements, our engineering team designed a complete treatment solution incorporating advanced pre-treatment, reverse osmosis technology, and ultraviolet disinfection.
The installed plant is built using high-quality stainless steel components and incorporates multiple stages of filtration to protect the RO membranes, maximize system efficiency, and ensure stable operation throughout the year.
The system has been engineered to operate efficiently under varying water conditions while maintaining consistent water quality and minimizing maintenance requirements.
Scope of Supply
The 1000 LPH Stainless Steel RO Plant supplied and installed at Hedenburg includes the following major equipment and accessories:
Raw Water Feeding Pump
The raw water feeding pump transfers water from the raw water storage tank to the pre-treatment section of the plant. It ensures a steady and controlled flow of water throughout the treatment process.
Pressure Sand Filter
A Pressure Sand Filter is installed as the first stage of filtration. This unit removes suspended solids, dust particles, turbidity, and other physical impurities from the incoming water. By reducing particulate matter, the filter protects downstream equipment and improves overall system performance.
Activated Carbon Filter
The Activated Carbon Filter removes chlorine, organic contaminants, color, odor, and taste-causing compounds. This stage is particularly important because residual chlorine can damage RO membranes and reduce their operational life.
Antiscalant Dosing System
An antiscalant dosing pump is incorporated to prevent scale formation on the RO membranes. Scaling caused by dissolved minerals is one of the most common reasons for membrane fouling. The dosing system significantly improves membrane life and ensures consistent recovery rates.
Micron Cartridge Filter
Before entering the RO membranes, water passes through a micron cartridge filter that captures fine particles and microscopic impurities. This final pre-treatment stage acts as a protective barrier for the high-pressure RO system.
High-Pressure Pump
The high-pressure pump is one of the most critical components of the plant. It generates the pressure required to force water through the semi-permeable RO membranes, enabling the separation of dissolved salts and contaminants.
Reverse Osmosis Membrane System
The plant is equipped with:
- 4 Nos. Reverse Osmosis Membrane Elements (4040)
- 2 Nos. Pressure Vessels
The RO membranes are responsible for removing dissolved salts, minerals, heavy metals, and other impurities from the water. This stage delivers the highest level of purification and significantly reduces TDS levels.
Instrumentation Package
A complete set of instruments has been installed to monitor key operating parameters such as pressure, flow, and water quality. These instruments help operators maintain optimal performance and quickly identify any operational deviations.
Digital Control Panel (Astral)
The system is controlled through a modern Astral digital control panel, providing easy operation, monitoring, and protection of the entire plant. The panel enhances operational safety and simplifies plant management.
Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection System
As a final polishing step, treated water passes through a UV disinfection unit. The UV system effectively destroys bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms without adding chemicals, ensuring microbiologically safe water.
Raw Water Characteristics
The RO plant has been specifically designed based on the following source water parameters:
| Parameter | Design Value |
|---|---|
| Source Water TDS | 1500–2000 ppm |
| Maximum Temperature | 40°C |
| Turbidity | Less than 1 NTU |
| Free Chlorine | Nil |
| Oil Content | Nil |
| Iron & Manganese | Nil |
| Bacterial Contamination | Nil |
These parameters formed the basis for selecting the appropriate filtration and membrane configuration to achieve the desired water quality.
Water Treatment Process Flow
The treatment process follows a carefully designed sequence:
Raw Water Storage → Raw Water Feed Pump → Pressure Sand Filter → Activated Carbon Filter → Antiscalant Dosing → Micron Cartridge Filter → High Pressure Pump → RO Membrane System → UV System → Treated Water Storage
Each stage plays a crucial role in ensuring the production of high-quality purified water while protecting the system components from premature wear and fouling.
Achieved Treated Water Quality
One of the primary goals of the project was to produce water suitable for demanding applications requiring low dissolved solids and excellent microbiological quality.
The expected treated water quality is:
| Parameter | Treated Water Quality |
| Suspended Solids | Nil |
| Turbidity | Nil |
| pH | 7.0 – 7.5 |
| TDS | Less than 10 ppm |
| Bacteria/Coliform | Nil |
The system has been designed to consistently achieve these quality standards under normal operating conditions.
Advantages of the Installed System
The newly commissioned RO plant offers numerous benefits to the client:
Superior Water Purity
The multi-stage treatment process effectively removes suspended particles, dissolved salts, organic contaminants, and microorganisms, delivering crystal-clear purified water.
Reduced Operating Costs
Efficient system design and advanced pre-treatment reduce membrane fouling and maintenance requirements, resulting in lower operational costs.
